Southern Style Barbecue & Fried Chicken
About This Spot
Southern Style Barbecue & Fried Chicken sits quietly along Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in Clinton, welcoming locals and travelers alike with the comforting promise of familiar southern flavors. From the moment you step inside—or even just pull into the parking lot during the midday rush—you sense the rhythm of a place where good food meets well-practiced hospitality. The air hums with the mingling aromas of smoky barbecue and freshly fried chicken, inviting you to slow down and savor something heartfelt.
The atmosphere here is straightforward and unassuming, the kind of spot where the pace feels guided by genuine care rather than convenience alone. Whether you choose to dine in the separate, no-frills room or grab a quick meal from the efficient drive-thru, the experience carries a warm sense of community. Regulars and newcomers share that unspoken understanding: this isn’t just fast food; it’s a familiar taste of southern home cooking that shows up on tables with sides made from scratch and a satisfaction that lingers beyond the last bite.
On any given visit, you might find yourself drawn to a plate where tender barbecue meets hearty collard greens and creamy mashed potatoes, or a basket with chicken fingers crisped to just the right golden brown, paired with cool potato salad and vibrant yams. As the day unfolds, the place fills with soft laughter and chatter, a quiet backdrop to the pause that good comfort food inspires. Even the hushpuppies, often saved for a final sweet note, carry a nostalgic warmth that makes leaving a little harder.
There’s an old-school charm here that resists the rush of modern trends, embracing instead the ritual of reliably crafted southern dishes enjoyed in good company. From earnest greetings at the counter to the steady hum of busy takeout orders, Southern Style Barbecue & Fried Chicken thrives as a local heartbeat—a reminder that sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that feel like coming home.

Stopped in yo get some fried chicken and decided to take it home. Going inside was way faster than the drive through. Chicken was juicy yet crispy but the sides were standout..beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Fresh, homemade and just delish. Saved my crispy hushpuppies for dessert. We definitely will be back.

Stopped in for lunch today on a random trip to Clinton. Old school style BBQ joint with the detached dinning room. Serves fresh chopped pork bbq and hand battered fried chicken along with southern staple sides like mashed potatoes, yams, greens, and slaw. One of the best Eastern Carolina style BBQ sandwiches I've ever had!!! Drive through and walk-in service moved quickly. Busy lunchtime service today. I assume its that way as a routine. In business since the middle 1980's!!!

One of my favorite places. Lately the chicken fingers are shrinking in size, but not price! It frustrating to get an 8 piece and it looks like 5.

I live in Beaufort, NC but have family in Fayetteville, NC. This restaurant is on my route back and forth. I have passed it a hundred times noticing a huge line for the takeout. I made it my mission to try this place on my way home. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken with cole slaw and potato salad. The lady taking my order was friendly and welcoming. It came out hot and fresh. I guess because the chicken pieces were on the smaller end of sizes, it was actually a 3 piece meal (one of the pieces was hidden under the thigh piece). The chicken skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The coleslaw and potato salad was home made and delicious. The hush puppies were great. I will be back and I will try the barbecue next. Highly recommend!
